Shearing – dissolution

After their stay in the pool, the spent Fuel Assemblies (FA) are sheared before being immersed in nitric acid to dissolve the nuclear material.
The dissolution solution produced in this way is sent to the extraction/separation workshops. Metal structural elements (sections of cladding and fuel assembly nozzles) are separated and sent for compacting.
