Fission

Fission, induced by the collision between a neutron and the nucleus of a fissile atom, is the splitting of the nucleus of an atom into two to four fragments known as « Fission Products » (FP).
This phenomenon releases energy, transformed into heat, as well as several neutrons. These neutrons will in turn be able to induce new fissions: this is known as a chain reaction.
